Digital twin-enabled smart facility management: A bibliometric review

Frontiers of Engineering Management doi: 10.1007/s42524-023-0254-4

Abstract: In recent years, the architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management (FM) industries have been applying various emerging digital technologies to facilitate the design, construction, and management of infrastructure facilities. Digital twin (DT) has emerged as a solution for enabling real-time data acquisition, transfer, analysis, and utilization for improved decision-making toward smart FM. Substantial research on DT for FM has been undertaken in the past decade. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the literature on DT for FM. A total of 248 research articles are obtained from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. VOSviewer is then utilized to conduct bibliometric analysis and visualize keyword co-occurrence, citation, and co-authorship networks; furthermore, the research topics, authors, sources, and countries contributing to the use of DT for FM are identified. The findings show that the current research of DT in FM focuses on building information modeling-based FM, artificial intelligence (AI)-based predictive maintenance, real-time cyber–physical system data integration, and facility lifecycle asset management. Several areas, such as AI-based real-time asset prognostics and health management, virtual-based intelligent infrastructure monitoring, deep learning-aided continuous improvement of the FM systems, semantically rich data interoperability throughout the facility lifecycle, and autonomous control feedback, need to be further studied. This review contributes to the body of knowledge on digital transformation and smart FM by identifying the landscape, state-of-the-art research trends, and future needs with regard to DT in FM.

Semantic Consistency and Correctness Verification of Digital Traffic Rules

Lei Wan,Changjun Wang,Daxin Luo,Hang Liu,Sha Ma,Weichao Hu,

Engineering doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.04.016

Abstract: The consensus of the automotive industry and traffic management authorities is that autonomous vehicles must follow the same traffic laws as human drivers. Using formal or digital methods, natural language traffic rules can be translated into machine language and used by autonomous vehicles. In this paper, a translation flow is designed. Beyond the translation, a deeper examination is required, because the semantics of natural languages are rich and complex, and frequently contain hidden assumptions. The issue of how to ensure that digital rules are accurate and consistent with the original intent of the traffic rules they represent is both significant and unresolved. In response, we propose a method of formal verification that combines equivalence verification with model checking. Reasonable and reassuring digital traffic rules can be obtained by utilizing the proposed traffic rule digitization flow and verification method. In addition, we offer a number of simulation applications that employ digital traffic rules to assess vehicle violations. The experimental findings indicate that our digital rules utilizing metric temporal logic (MTL) can be easily incorporated into simulation platforms and autonomous driving systems (ADS).

Deceptive jamming discrimination based on range-anglelocalization of a frequency diverse array Article

Zhao-jian ZHANG, Jun-wei XIE, Chuan SHENG, Zhun TANG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 9,   Pages 1437-1446 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601577

Abstract: We propose a method to suppress deceptive jamming by frequencydiverse array (FDA) in radar electronic countermeasure environments.FDA offers a new range-angle-dependent beam pattern through a smallfrequency increment across elements. Due to the coupling between theangle and range, a mismatch between the test angle and physical angleoccurs when the slant range on which the beam focuses is not equalto the slant range of the real target. In addition, the range of thetarget can be extracted by sum-difference beam except for time-delaytesting, because the beam provides a range resolution in the FDA thatcannot be deceived by traditional deceptive jamming. A strategy ofusing FDA to transmit two pulses with zero and nonzero frequency increments, respectively, is proposed to ensure that the angle of a target canbe obtained by FDA. Moreover, the localization performance is examinedby analyzing the Cramer-Rao lower bound and detection probability.Effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by simulation results.

Federated Learning for 6G: Applications, Challenges, and Opportunities Review

Zhaohui Yang, Mingzhe Chen, Kai-Kit Wong, H. Vincent Poor, Shuguang Cui

Engineering 2022, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 33-41 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.12.002

Abstract:

Standard machine-learning approaches involve the centralization of training data in a data center, where centralized machine-learning algorithms can be applied for data analysis and inference. However, due to privacy restrictions and limited communication resources in wireless networks, it is often undesirable or impractical for the devices to transmit data to parameter sever. One approach to mitigate these problems is federated learning (FL), which enables the devices to train a common machine learning model without data sharing and transmission. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of FL applications for envisioned sixth generation (6G) wireless networks. In particular, the essential requirements for applying FL to wireless communications are first described. Then potential FL applications in wireless communications are detailed. The main problems and challenges associated with such applications are discussed. Finally, a comprehensive FL implementation for wireless communications is described.
